Invoice for Services Rendered: Sample and Walkthrough

Invoice for Services Rendered: Sample and Walkthrough

A services rendered invoice documents work you’ve completed and are now billing the client for. Unlike a time-and-materials invoice that lists hourly rates and hours worked, a services rendered invoice describes the work, its value, and the amount due. This format is standard for freelancers, consultants, and service businesses across all industries.

What Goes in a Services Rendered Invoice

Your invoice needs several key sections. Start with your name or business name, address, and contact information in the top left. Place the client’s name and address in the top right.

In the body, include an invoice number (for tracking), invoice date, and due date. List the services rendered with a brief description. Instead of “Graphic Design, 20 hours at $75/hour,” write “Logo redesign for ABC Corp including three concepts, client revisions, and final files.” This shows value instead of just hours.

Include the amount for each service. Break them out if you provided multiple services. Keep the language clear and specific. Don’t write “Services rendered” with no detail. Write what you actually did.

Add payment terms clearly. “Payment due Net 30 from invoice date” removes all ambiguity. Include your payment methods at the bottom: bank transfer details, PayPal, Stripe, or whatever you accept.

When to Send a Services Rendered Invoice

Send a services rendered invoice after completing work. Some freelancers invoice immediately after delivery. Others wait for client approval. The safest approach is sending the invoice once the client confirms satisfaction with the work.

For ongoing relationships, invoice monthly for all services rendered that month. For project work, invoice at completion or per milestones if agreed.

Never send an invoice for work that hasn’t been completed or delivered. That’s a quote or estimate, not an invoice. An invoice requests payment for work already done.

A services rendered invoice is your record of what you delivered and what the client owes. Make it detailed enough that someone unfamiliar with your work could understand what happened, yet clear enough to fit on one page.

Including Services Rendered in Your Invoicing System

Waco3 lets you create invoices for services rendered and track them through completion. Save templates for recurring service descriptions, set automatic payment reminders, and track outstanding invoices.

With manual tracking, spreadsheets work but create extra work. A proper invoicing system tracks who owes you what, when it’s due, and sends reminders automatically. This removes admin burden and lets you focus on delivering great work.
